“Fear not. For I am with you”

At the age of 12 years old, I began my addiction with cigarettes and would sneak them from my mom and grandmother. In high school, I met my older son's father which led me to the beginning of my usage with drugs and alcohol. This ultimately led me into a downward spiral.

In my early 30’s, I became homeless and ended up getting into trouble with the law for the first time in my life. One day, while serving my time at Sandy Mush correctional facility, I heard from one of the girls who was also serving time mention there would be "Church." I soon learned about Jail Ministry and who Gina Thomas was as she shared the word of God with us! Little did I know that it would change my life forever. It was not only life-changing, but it was the first time turning my life completely over to the care of God.

I felt God's love and forgiveness by participating in Jail Ministry and like I belonged somewhere. I also recognized God's grace and mercy for the first time in a long time. When I got out of jail, I was introduced to the Merced County Rescue Mission where my life changed! I completed the Hope for Women program through the Rescue Mission. I can say that for the first time in my adulthood I'm 4 years sober which has been the longest I've ever been sober in my adulthood. Currently, I am attending Celebrate Recovery meetings & completing a 12-step program, and I cannot thank God enough.

The scripture that helped me is Isaiah 65:17:

"For behold, I create new Heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind."
